About Kaya and Luna

To be revised - Kaya is no longer with us.

Welcome to our photo blog! I'm Kaya, a two year old fawn Great Dane who lives in Australia. I have a sidekick (ok, sister) called Luna. Luna is a Great Dane too, coloured blue (the trendy name for grey) and one year old (nearly one and a half, she reminds me) and used to try and be a show dog. Now she does agility instead!

My special talent is modelling. I get lots of practice because our Mum is a dog photographer, so whenever she doesn't have other dogs to take photos of, she practices on us. I'm very talented at modelling and Luna is well, not quite so talented. She does try though.

We get to do lots of different things with our Mum and Dad - going to the beach is a definite favourite. We love sharing our many adventures with the world through our blog. Oh and we also love receiving comments - hope to hear from you soon!

Chicken? What chicken?

Img_6254a

Genia - You crack me up!

Teresa aka Harley's mama - I am in love with Luna and Kaya...Chook what chook? is now my screensaver here in Vancouver Canada...I have bookmarked this page and can't wait for more pics! Good job on the pics ty!

Arabella - Luna, You seem to have something in your mouth - it looks like my friend but I tore his head off and carry him around with just his beak sticking out. Does you're chicken have a beak? Or did you somehow get my chicken?

Fun at the Park (by Luna)

Oooh another post by me!! Kaya is being nice to me this week!

This afternoon we went for a walk down the road to our local park. There’s lots of open space where we can run run RUN as much as we like! Usually Mum walks along one side and Dad walks along the other, and me and Kaya have races between them! She usually wins…

Img_6013

But I am getting faster all the time!

Img_6026

Sometimes we can’t decide which way to go…

Img_6018

When we’re running we just let it all hang out – tongues, lips, ears – Mum gets some pretty funny photos! Hehe Kaya looks so silly here…

Img_6021

Ok, ok, I’ll admit I look a bit weird too!

Img_6029

There’s HEAPS of good smells in the park, especially after it’s been raining. We stop and check them out for a break from the running…

Img_6043

Img_6048

YIKES! Here comes Kaya! Looks like we’re running again!

Img_6056

Oh no, she’s beating me!

Img_6074

Back the other way – now I’m beating her!

Img_6079

When we’re not running or sniffing, I have a little thing I like to do called ‘doggy dancin’…

Img_6086

I basically just throw my legs around in every direction, prance around and jump sideways a lot, it might not look very co-ordinated to you but I know the latest doggy dance steps. Other dogs recognise my moves! Even if the humans think I’m acting like fool.

Img_6002

I tried to teach Dad but I don’t think he gets it…

Img_6088

Oh well. Back to racing Kaya again – look, we’re neck and neck!

Img_6133

Did someone say something about sneaky tactics? It wasn’t me, Kaya started it!

Img_6141

Once we’d had enough running it was time to go home. Mum sneaked off and hid behind the toilet block! But we knew she was there and spotted her straight away!

Img_6152

Running at the park with Kaya is so fun. One day I am going to get big enough and fast enough to beat her! Just you wait Kaya…

Lisa - Great fun to see you both having so much fun. Love your dance!

Late to the Show (by Luna)

Mum and I set off this morning on a reaaallly long drive to a show. The map on the computer told her it would take under 2 hours, but the road was really windy and we had some disagreements on the way.

What’s wrong with trying to sit in Mum’s lap anyway? The back is noisy, a bit too warm and a little bit scary, even though my comfy bed was there – I’d much rather be in the front with Mum. Apparently Mum can’t use the levers and wheel properly though when I’m sitting on her lap and she has trouble seeing out with my head in the way. Geesh Mum, deal with it!

If only she’d let me sit in the front instead of stopping all the time and putting me back in the back (against my express wishes), we would have gotten there in time.

We finally arrived at the show place and we jumped out of the car and raced over to the show ring. There was another Great Dane in the ring – she was the only other one entered! We rushed over to the man in charge but he said "No! Too late! You’ve already been declared absent!". Mum told him that we’d just driven 2 and a half hours to get there but he didn’t change his mind. I offered to bite him but Mum said I better not.

There was a horsey show on at the same showground so we went and watched them for a while, then we started back on the long drive home.

On the way back, we stopped at a nice creek with a bridge over it and Mum got the camera out. She let me have a snuffle around in the long grass first…

Img_5645

But then she told me it was time to work! Apparently since I’d gotten out of it at the show didn’t mean I got out of it completely. Bugger. So I did my best show stack impression…

Img_5684

Pretty good, don’t you think? Nope… not according to Mum. My tongue was hanging out, not good enough, try again, she said. Pft so what if my tongue was hanging out. It was hot! Dogs do that ya know Mum.

Img_5687

Mum informed me that I look especially goofy when my tongue is out. Apparently it’s a BIG tongue. And it never seems to hang out the front, just out the side…

Img_5689

Admittedly sometimes I forget about it and close my mouth when it’s still hanging out… of course Mum had the camera in my face at the time – doh!

Img_5690

Oh FINE then how’s this Mum, look I even made my ears sit properly too. Gotta be bonus points for that, they aren’t easy to control!

Img_5698

Mum, Mum! Are you looking? Look at my perfect stack!! How good am I!

Img_5710

How’s my profile?

Img_5723

Mum said I was looking quite good and doing well, so she stripped me of my collar and made me do some nude posing! How do I look, boys? Only problem with this is I was doing what Mum calls ‘munchy-lip’ (sometimes when I close my mouth my lips get caught inside – oops).

Img_5735

We kind of gave up on the show practice shots after that. But did the posing demands end? No! This time she wanted one of my face. This is what I thought of the idea…

Img_5736 Img_5737

The next instructions were to smile and make my ears sit properly. I attempted…

Img_5743 Img_5745

My ears didn’t want to co-operate though! I tried again…

Img_5749

Yay! Mum said that was much better. Phew. This modelling business is HARD! We had one last go at a nice-eared, non-munchy face, tongue not-out shot…

Img_5753

… and I nailed it!!! Yee haa!

I learned today that this modelling business is harder than I thought! I always thought Kaya had the easy job as Mum’s professional dog model, but it’s a lot of work and Mum is a very demanding boss. I think next time we are heading to show I might sit in the back and be good so we get there on time. I would much rather do that than be the subject of one of Mum’s tedious modelling sessions!!

Chris - I love the munchie lips.

Lisa - You look so beautiful! Your mum knows what she is doing, you should listen to her. Sorry about the meanie at the show not letting you in.

jim7221 - Wow.... a great post!!.... good to see you girls enjoying yourselves... as usual... Mums photography is brilliant... she does you proud!!!

molly - you are such a WONDERFUL and beautiful girl. Your mummy takes the BEST pictures... so glad I found you!!!

Tricks Training

Dad filmed us and then Mum made a video of us doing some tricks training! We only did a few of our tricks – shake hands, back/come and catch, but we know heaps more than that too. We are going to make another one soon (now that the grass is mowed in the front yard).

Enjoy!

xxxooo Kaya

Lisa - Great work! You two are awesome.
