About Kaya and Luna

To be revised - Kaya is no longer with us.

Welcome to our photo blog! I'm Kaya, a two year old fawn Great Dane who lives in Australia. I have a sidekick (ok, sister) called Luna. Luna is a Great Dane too, coloured blue (the trendy name for grey) and one year old (nearly one and a half, she reminds me) and used to try and be a show dog. Now she does agility instead!

My special talent is modelling. I get lots of practice because our Mum is a dog photographer, so whenever she doesn't have other dogs to take photos of, she practices on us. I'm very talented at modelling and Luna is well, not quite so talented. She does try though.

We get to do lots of different things with our Mum and Dad - going to the beach is a definite favourite. We love sharing our many adventures with the world through our blog. Oh and we also love receiving comments - hope to hear from you soon!

Luna is Broken

I’m not exactly sure how it happened (I didn’t do it, honest!) but somehow Luna managed to go and hurt herself when we were at the beach the other day.

She started limping around and at first Mum and Dad thought she was just faking it. Luna is good at this and it gets her lots of attention, but then she blows it by getting distracted and running off just fine. But this time it was obvious she’d REALLY hurt herself so home we went and off she went to the vets the next morning.

Turns out, Luna has a broken toe! Ouch! She will be out of action for a while. She is going in to see an ortho-something special man at the vet soon and he might have to put her toe back together with screws and pins and plates and stuff. Like the kinds of metal stuff that Dad likes playing around with! That sounds like it would hurt a lot. But hopefully she will just get it straightened up again and she will be ok.

I hope so! It sucks at the moment cos we can’t play and run around like we usually do. We have to stay inside and be very quiet and only play when we are lying down. Mum even has to come with us every time we go outside in case we start running around! How annoying!!

The awesome thing is, I get to go for walks in the morning with Mum all to myself! How good is that! Mum says it’s to wear me out so I don’t bother Luna too much but I know it’s cos she loves me more.

Anyways here’s some pics of Luna being a sook.. (and hoarding the squeaky chicken legs)

Luna posing nicely for once, pity she decided to do it in front of an ugly brick wall, white gate and a water tank… (that’s what you get for using an amateur)

By the way, Mum told me today that I am vain. I haven’t had a chance to look that word up yet in the dogtionery but I am imagining it means something along the lines of ‘extraordinarily beautiful’.

Natural Habitat

Mum tells me that Great Danes started off a long time ago in a far away place called Europe. We were bred to hunt wild boar! Whoah. So I guess our natural habitat would be in a cold place running through mountains and forests…

We have a different theory though. Me and Luna reckon that Great Danes were bred to be beach dogs. Why?

  1. We have very short hair which makes it easy to get the sand off later.
  2. Short hair means we don’t get too hot or weighed down in the water when we are swimming.
  3. We are big! Which makes running in the sand and leaping up and down big dunes really easy.
  4. Being big makes it easier to keep up with our humans when they are playing in the surf, we can touch the bottom so we can stay out longer as we don’t get tired having to swim the whole time!
  5. We LOVE the beach!! It’s our favourite place in the whole wide world.

julie - I have an award for you on my blog. Please stop by to pick it up!

Sunshine Puppies

We like to follow the sunshine around on the floor in winter. Mum always moves our beds so we can be comfy in the sun! Since she’s so considerate we let her take some photos of us. More of those ‘arty’ kind of photos it seems…
