About Kaya and Luna

To be revised - Kaya is no longer with us.

Welcome to our photo blog! I'm Kaya, a two year old fawn Great Dane who lives in Australia. I have a sidekick (ok, sister) called Luna. Luna is a Great Dane too, coloured blue (the trendy name for grey) and one year old (nearly one and a half, she reminds me) and used to try and be a show dog. Now she does agility instead!

My special talent is modelling. I get lots of practice because our Mum is a dog photographer, so whenever she doesn't have other dogs to take photos of, she practices on us. I'm very talented at modelling and Luna is well, not quite so talented. She does try though.

We get to do lots of different things with our Mum and Dad - going to the beach is a definite favourite. We love sharing our many adventures with the world through our blog. Oh and we also love receiving comments - hope to hear from you soon!

Luna’s gone weird

Ok some weird stuff has been happening lately. I’m not quite sure what it all means, but Luna can’t go outside unsupervised, she smells funny and she has to wear pants. She also now leaks. Like I said, really weird and I can’t ever remember it happening to me! Mum and Dad tell me it never will, something to do with this. Phew!

Here’s some photos (Luna is gonna bite me when she finds out I posted these)…

Susan Bourne - Oh my goodness! Poor Luna. Is she embarrassed? Did she get spayed? I must say, though, her panties are nice and minimal? Tuk & Jack's Mom in California, Susan

Susan Bourne - Oh my goodness, I'm ridiculously dumb (and blond). She didn't get spayed... it's her "time"! Thus the "no wandering around outside unsupervised!" Tuk & Jack's Ashamed Mom in California, Susan

Helping Dad (by Luna)

I like to think I’m a nice helpful kinda pup, so when Dad is working on his projects I always like to lend a hand. The stuff that Dad works on is so interesting!

Dad has his own workbench and has lots of cool stuff – lights that flash (I love pretty lights), things that smoke and make funny noises… it’s so intriguing…

Sometimes Dad has to gently remind me that I am getting in the way, I try not to but I like to sniff at everything and poke things with my nose. It’s all part of the learning process!

My favourite bit is watching the smoke come up from the thing that Dad calls the ‘solder’. It wisps up into the air, then disappears! I keep watching thinking it might come back but it never does.

I’ve kind of always liked Dad’s stuff. See this flashback post for more!

Cheryl - All of you all are sexy! Love the baby dogs!

kst - I love your blog!! I've followed Kaya's story (and now Luna's) since her Daily Puppy debut last year. This last picture of Luna looking at Dad is adorable.

Susan Bourne - Luna is so precious. I love how she is so curious and has so much expression. Thanks for this blog! Tuk & Jack's Mom in California, Susan

We’ve been tagged and awarded!

Apologies to people who have shown our blog some love lately, Mum’s been meaning to respond (I’ve nagged her every day, I promise) but I’m happy to report it’s finally paid off, so here we go!

First of all, a big thank you to Julie from showyourpony.com for the wonderful I love your blog award! Wow! Thanks so much!

Iloveyourblogthumb

We have to pass the award onto one of our favourite doggie bloggers, which I’m happy to announce is Bella from Our Girl Blue. Go Bella!

Secondly, we have been tagged by the lovely Emilee and her very cute (woo woo!) doggie Buddy from Emilee Fuss Photography! Now, the rules of the tagging say that we have to share 5 songs that we are embarrassed to admit we like. Because we are doggies, well, we don’t really know any songs! Mum and Dad listen to music but it’s always that banging harsh sounding stuff (I think they call it "techno").

So anyway, we thought we’d do something a bit different. Instead, here’s a list of our favourite YouTube videos! We love watching them and I hope you enjoy them too…

Great Dane vs Towel Monster

Send 1930 – awesome footage of one of the biggest Great Dane Kennels in 1930 in England

Great Dane MACH Mr. Bojangles AKC Agility Invitational 2007

AMAZING Great Dane dog show!!! – lots of beautiful blue American Great Danes at a big dog show

Great Danes- rated "P" for PUPPIES!! – warning! Super cute!

Bella - Wow - thanks, guys! I can't believe it! I got so excited when mom read that to me this morning! Now she'd really better stay on the ball and post more pics of me...I'll just have to be super-extra-cute and photogenic from now on (like it's possible for me to be any cuter - hmmph). Thanks again - you made my morning (and my mom & dad's, too). Extra Sloppy Licks, Bella

gryt - That video from 1930 is absolutely amazing... It's like a scene straight out of The Great Gatsby - but with Great Danes.

Still broken

Just Luna here dropping in to say my silly foot is still brokened. Still sucks. A lot.

We went to the vet today and I got a new bandage. But it fell off so Mum and Dad went and bought some bandage making stuff and made me a new one!

They were very pleased with themselves, so Mum had to post it here. She says maybe she should have been a vet rather than a photographer. Judging by the number of times we have been to the vet, she probably has a point there – it would have been a lot cheaper!

Here’s a flashback to Kaya’s times at the vet…

Battle Scar (hehe at least I don’t have to wear one of these!)

Ahliah - True, would be cheaper (whatever that means) if your Mum would be a vet, but then we wouldn't have nice phtots of your ace blue bandage. ;)
