About Kaya and Luna

To be revised - Kaya is no longer with us.

Welcome to our photo blog! I'm Kaya, a two year old fawn Great Dane who lives in Australia. I have a sidekick (ok, sister) called Luna. Luna is a Great Dane too, coloured blue (the trendy name for grey) and one year old (nearly one and a half, she reminds me) and used to try and be a show dog. Now she does agility instead!

My special talent is modelling. I get lots of practice because our Mum is a dog photographer, so whenever she doesn't have other dogs to take photos of, she practices on us. I'm very talented at modelling and Luna is well, not quite so talented. She does try though.

We get to do lots of different things with our Mum and Dad - going to the beach is a definite favourite. We love sharing our many adventures with the world through our blog. Oh and we also love receiving comments - hope to hear from you soon!

Beach Shots: Posing

We went to the beach at Currumbin the other day and Mum took so many
nice photos of us, they are too much for just one post! So she’s going
to space them over a few days worth with a little theme for each day.

What would a visit to the beach be without some posing for the camera for Mum. It was very windy though and there were lots of people there cruising around using sails – Mum explained that the people on the water with the sails are called ‘windsurfers’ and the people on the water with the sails in the air are called ‘kitesurfers’. I reckon it looks fun! Though I don’t think it’s something that doggies can do.

Anyway Mum decided we needed some nice posed photos. I didn’t think she was going to have much luck being so windy but we decided to try anyway.

Things weren’t going too badly, except for our flyaway ears!

Plus, there was sand blowing in our faces which wasn’t too pleasant, plus, there was a fisherman with an interesting looking bucket just behind Mum and Dad and we were pretty keen on heading on over to investigate!

So we ended up pretty much giving up on the whole posing thing. Maybe next time!

claire - i am beyond jealous that you live close to a beach at all - and especially one where you can take your dogs!

Emilee - Those ears are irresistible! Love them!

Another thing we just LOVE doing at the beach is swimming. We especially love it when Dad throws us a stick so we can swim out to fetch it.

Here we are waiting patiently for Dad to throw the stick…

Sometimes I get a bit tricky and slowly back up so I can get a head start…

Img_2239

Luna’s pretty quick in the surf though. This time she outpaced me!

Img_2222

I still like to help her bring it back that last little bit though!

Img_2231

Just to prove that I do actually fetch sticks from the deep water (I have some dignity to regain here), here’s a shot of me fetching on the calm side.

Cheryl - They are the most gorgeous creatures I have ever seen as is the ocean, my goodness! OHHH are they possibly on the Barf or raw diet? We are struggling with allergy issues here?

Charlotte - Cheryl - thanks! Yes they are raw fed - Kaya since about 4-5 months and Luna since we brought her home at 8 weeks. They thrive on it and both have tremendous appetites! No problems with allergies luckily.

Emilee - This beach is beautiful! I really want to take Buddy to the dog beach a little ways from our house, but I'm worried about how he'll do. He's terrified of swimming pools, but I think he'd get into the ocean, because it is more gradual than steps.

Beach Shots: Chasing

Today’s theme is chasing! This is one of my favourite things to do at the beach (or anywhere, for that matter).

On this occasion, I was quietly minding my own business, checking out the fishies in the nice clear water…

When I spotted Luna, trying unsuccessfully to sneakily creep up behind me…

Img_2178

Instead of staying for a fight, the little chicken ran away! Right, time to chase!

Img_2182

She got a head start on me, but I’m pretty fast, so I knew I’d catch her up soon…

Img_2184

Almost got her!

Img_2185

Told you I’m fast!

Wordgrrl - Hee hee hee... Sorry, Luna, but your big sister is older and wiser and knows more sneaky tricks than you do. These beaches are simply amazing!

Christy - I love that picture of Luna running with her bum stuck out - too funny! We just got back from a week at the beach ourselves, so we'll have lots of pics of Bella at the beach!

Beach Shots: Socialising

We hadn’t been to the beach at Currumbin for a while because it’s been crappy weather and cos of Luna’s toe and her having to wear pants and stuff. So you can imagine how happy I was to see my handsome friend Mr Zephyr!

Img_2188

We had lots of catching up to do…

Img_2196

Then of course time for some stick fetching before he had to go!
