About Kaya and Luna

To be revised - Kaya is no longer with us.

Welcome to our photo blog! I'm Kaya, a two year old fawn Great Dane who lives in Australia. I have a sidekick (ok, sister) called Luna. Luna is a Great Dane too, coloured blue (the trendy name for grey) and one year old (nearly one and a half, she reminds me) and used to try and be a show dog. Now she does agility instead!

My special talent is modelling. I get lots of practice because our Mum is a dog photographer, so whenever she doesn't have other dogs to take photos of, she practices on us. I'm very talented at modelling and Luna is well, not quite so talented. She does try though.

We get to do lots of different things with our Mum and Dad - going to the beach is a definite favourite. We love sharing our many adventures with the world through our blog. Oh and we also love receiving comments - hope to hear from you soon!

Our Big Adventure, Part 2

Continued from Part 1…

We have a few favourite things we love to do at the beach, but I reckon number one would have to be fetching sticks from the surf!

Img_4106

When Luna was little, I could run a lot faster than her and always used to beat her to the stick, but nowadays it’s a bit different. She is just so damn determined! Not to mention competitive! I’m just not that kinda Dane. I like to take it easy, take my time and do a really thorough job of fetching the stick.

Dad has a really good stick here. The really good ones float (hey, some don’t!), they are nice and short (so we don’t run them down our throats, ouch) and they are preferably soft and flaky so that once we fetch them, we can satisfactorily munch on them for a while.

Img_4111

Dad starts walking towards the surf…

Img_4114

His arm goes back! Winding up for the throw!

Img_4115

Whoah this is gonna be a big one!!

Img_4116

YEAH! We are off!

Img_4117

The best bit is crashing through the surf to get to it! Sometimes the waves are just right and we JUMP over them on our way in, it makes Mum and Dad go – "oooooh" – so we like doing that.

Img_4118

As always though, Luna gets the stick. And shows off.

Img_4136

While I secretly stalk her…

Img_4138

Sometimes Mum and Dad take pity on me and make the throw especially for me! Just so I don’t feel left out. I haven’t the heart to tell them that I am perfectly capable of getting the stick before Luna whenever I want to, if I tried just a little bit harder.

Img_4148

So, I let them think they are doing me a favour. It is kind of nice to get special treatment while Luna has to sit and wait… in the water even!

Img_4149 Img_4150

Yay I get the stick!

Img_4086

Done with stick chasing, we move onto our next most favourite thing to do at the beach…

Img_4144

Can you guess what it will be?

Honey the Great Dane - Oooh! I can't wait to find out!! I love playing with sticks at the beach too - but I'm too much of a wimp to go into the water!! Hey - I've given you guys an award - come over to my blog to pick it up! :) Slobbers, Honey

dizzy mum - I love your photos and your blog! Your parents are very lucky. I came to check you out after reading about you on bighoneydog's blog. I'll come back regularly for my fix of doggie fun.

Ruby Isabella - Wow! That look likes fun. I'd love to chase a stick at the beach with you two. I can see you have a fun-filled life.

Maura - Who is the visitor you have this week?? I am so anxious to see......

Our Big Adventure, Part 1

It was a lazy weekend day and we were just lying around, bored, as usual. We never do anything exciting.

Img_3974

Well actually I don’t think Luna ever gets bored, there’s always the floor to stare at. I can’t for the life of me see what’s so interesting about the floor but as long as it keeps her occupied (and not biting at me or annoying me), that’s fine with me.

Img_3980 Img_3981

Suddenly there was a flurry of activity – it appeared we were going somewhere! Somewhere different, cos our beds got put in the car too! As soon as we realise we are going somewhere, we load ourselves into the car, you know, just in case Mum and Dad forget us at the last minute.

Img_4000

We drove for a looong time up the big road, then through a city, then on another big road. Then, we stopped at someone’s house! Who could it be!?

Img_4007

Turns out it wasn’t anyone exciting. Dad was just picking up a big broken screen-thing (like the one at home I watch the lions on for my stalking research). We had to stay in the car and not get out and run around. It got a bit boring after a while.

Img_4019_2 Img_4012

We were just about sick of all the waiting, when Dad said it was time to go!

Img_4023 Img_4021

Woo hoo! And guess where we ended up going! THE BEACH! Not our usual doggy beach (a loong way away from there) but it was a doggy beach all the same. We had a quick drink (car rides make us thirsty), then headed down the path to the beach.

Img_4030

This beach was a bit weird though and we could only be off-lead after a certain time. We got there just before that time so we had to have our leads on on the beach for a little while.

Img_4031

I asked Mum if it was time to go off-lead yet…

Img_4032

And it was!!! Time for running and chasing!

Img_4036

Img_4037

Img_4038

And swimming in the surf!

Img_4063_2

We had heaps more fun on the new beach but Mum has lots of stuff to do (as usual), so this story is… TO BE CONTINUED…

Cheryl - What a fun adventure girls! Kaya I think you have the perfect "I am bored" look!

lessie - Do you have any advice about training two dogs at a time? I have two -- and it's a struggle. :) Love your site.:)

Honey the Great Dane - Can't wait to hear about the rest of your 'big adventure' guys! That beach looks lovely - but wow, you guys are so brave to go into the water! I am a big wimp and although my humans always keep trying to encourage me to go in, I just dip a paw in and then scurry out! Maybe the sea is warmer in Australia? It's freezing here in NZ! :) Slobbers, Honey the Great Dane

dizzy mum - You guys rock. Love the doggie exuberance in the running pics!

A Great Dane called Honey

On Mums travels on the internets she came across a beautiful fawn Great Dane girl (not me for once) who lives in New Zealand (I think that’s the place where Mum goes away to sometimes to visit her littermates). Honey is very very clever and does all kinds of cool stuff like doggy dancing with her Mum Hsin-Yi, therapy and she’s even a model, just like me! I think me and Honey would get along real well.

Another thing that Honey and us have in common is she gets a raw diet too! Honey has a website and on it is a GREAT page about raw feeding that you should definitely read if you are considering it. It explains everything really well!

While you are there, you should also check out her pages on canine freestyle (that’s the doggy dancing stuff) and her work as a therapy dog. In fact, her whole site is pretty cool so go and explore it all (ooh and remember to watch the videos on her training page)!

Here’s some pictures of Honey doing lots of fun stuff!

Cheryl - You are prettier Kaya, trust me!

Honey the Great Dane - Aww...thank you so much for a lovely post about me! Am blushing!! :-) I think you're both beautiful too - much daintier than me with my slobbery jowls!! My human says that there are lots of types of Danes and different people prefer different types - but she likes the wrinkly face ones with more solid bodies and big jowls so that's why she picked my breeders...us dogs are not so fussy, are we? We just love all humans regardless of shape, size, weight or colour - we know it's what's inside that counts!! :-)

Ahliah - Hey K, we don't get any food from tins or bags either. I don't likes the green stuff much but, thanks dog there is lots of fun food, like bones and chickens and stuff. Clever Dane that Honey, bet her mums real clever too... Ahhhliaaahh

Pipa - Hi there, Kaya and Luna! Your photos are pawsome, really amazing! Loved them! I'm a 7 month golden retriever, hope u come by and visit me! Pipa

Leah - Wow, Honeys a big girl isnt she!

Basking

Hello fans – just another quick post today!

We have been really busy out and about having lots of adventures and Mum has also been working heaps, so to tide you all over until she can get around to doing a proper post here’s us doing one of our favourite things, basking in the sunshine in the dunes at the beach!

Img_3879 Img_3860

We’ll be back soon with lots of fun photos and adventures!

Love and licks, Kaya and Luna xxxooo
