About Kaya and Luna

To be revised - Kaya is no longer with us.

Welcome to our photo blog! I'm Kaya, a two year old fawn Great Dane who lives in Australia. I have a sidekick (ok, sister) called Luna. Luna is a Great Dane too, coloured blue (the trendy name for grey) and one year old (nearly one and a half, she reminds me) and used to try and be a show dog. Now she does agility instead!

My special talent is modelling. I get lots of practice because our Mum is a dog photographer, so whenever she doesn't have other dogs to take photos of, she practices on us. I'm very talented at modelling and Luna is well, not quite so talented. She does try though.

We get to do lots of different things with our Mum and Dad - going to the beach is a definite favourite. We love sharing our many adventures with the world through our blog. Oh and we also love receiving comments - hope to hear from you soon!

Play with me?

Emilee - I'd love to, Miss Kaya. :)

Cheryl - I am not sure I could stop kissing on you long enough to play!

Leah - Oh just look at that face!

Arabella - Okay! I'll be right over. I just might make it there for your birthday - if I can find a jet plane. Arabella

Modeling Practice

Since the last post was ALL about Luna, this time it’s gonna be ALL about me! Mum and I haven’t done much modeling practice lately so today I struck some poses for Mum to capture.

"Dreaming of running on the beach into the sunset with [insert latest doggy romance name here]."

Img_3743

"I thought I heard something outside but I’m too lazy to get up and check so I’ll just look worried with my eyes until Mum or Dad get the picture and do it for me."

Img_3751

"Maybe if I look sad and pathetic enough, Mum will get me a new squeaky toy off the top of the fridge."

Img_3752

Oh FINE then I guess Luna can have a modeling picture too. Only if I can do the caption though.

"Ahh… ummmmm….." (teehehe)

Img_3770

Leah - I really love the second one of Kaya, too gorgeous!

Cheryl - Those girls have the sad and pathetic looks down to a science!

Rosalynne - I love the expressive looks that dogs can make. You can really tell what they are thinking. Great shots!

Emilee - I LOVE these! You girls have the sweetest, most kissable faces!

First night at AGILITY! (by Luna)

I just had the BEST NIGHT EVER!!!

Mum and Dad had been talking about taking me to "Agility" for a while now, but I always assumed it was like the place where I get stuck with sharp things by strange people and end up feeling very sleepy with lots of strange people around and wake up in a cage feeling very woooosy….

Anyway, turns out it was nothing like that at all!

When I got over the shock and disappointment of Kaya not coming with us (I have to say that just in case she reads this), I realised we were stopping at a park! With lots of other dogs, and some super fun looking big toys to play with!

Img_3628

The humans stood around talking for a while and I thought we would never get to play, but finally we did! The first thing we played with was this piece of board that wobbled around. I had to stay on the board while turning and moving all over it, keeping my balance and eating treats. Soooo easy.

Img_3634

I didn’t find it hard at all!

Img_3635

Next I had to walk over some little poles which were a bit off the ground. I heard them talking about ‘building rear end awareness’, but sounds like common sense to me. I know what my rear end is doing at all times thank you very much.

The next thing we did was going through the hoop! There was another doggy doing all this stuff with me, it was her first night too, so we had to wait our turn. I spotted Dad so thought I better pose (see I do learn some things from Kaya).

Img_3645

I think Mum was falling asleep waiting…

Img_3644

Finally it was our turn to go through the hoop. Easy! (specially when there is cheese involved)

Img_3650sequence

Next was the tunnel. I’ll admit at first I didn’t really understand what I was supposed to do. Mum stood at one end, and the lady held me at the other end – I could see Mum right over the top of the tunnel (apparently most dogs can’t see over the top). When Mum called ‘come!’ I did the logical thing and went around it! I’ve learned that this agility business isn’t always logical though, not before Mum and the lady had to show me the ‘right’ way to do it.

Img_3665

Ok, so it took a couple of goes.

Img_3669

After they threw about 10 pieces of cheese PLUS my favourite squeaky toy in there, I was onto it! Inside the tunnel is a GREAT place to be! Coming out the other end to lots of hugs and claps and more cheese is even better!

Img_3674

In between playing on the big toys we got to run around a bit and play! MUCH more fun than at dog shows where we just stand around – BORING.

Img_3678

Mum brought along the favourite toy of the moment – my (ok, ok, OUR – sorry Kaya) little blue dinosaur Cuz! We have about 3 Cuzes now and we LOVE them (thanks again Ahliah!).

Img_3679

Img_3682

After the play session it was time for more big toys. The next one was kinda like the first tunnel but it had a big long soft kinda tube on the end. We weren’t up to that bit yet though so the lady took it off, which meant it was just like the tunnel we had already done. Easy!

Img_3687sequence

That was the last tunnel for the night – the next big toys were jumps! I LOVE jumping!

Img_3699sequence_2

Right at the end we did some tricks stuff. We do lots of tricks training at home so I kinda already knew what I was supposed to do here.

Sit, easy!

Img_3710

Stay, easy.

Img_3709

Sitting and staying on the OTHER side of Mum – hmmm not so easy. When we practice things and go for walks, I always have to stay on the same side of Mum or Dad. This is the ‘left’ side. In agility, I have to be able to do everything on the other side too! Including walking, running, sitting, staying and all that kind of stuff.

I did it properly here the first time…

Img_3713

But after that I just wanted to duck around to the other side of Mum. It just didn’t feel ‘right’ on the ‘right’ side of her! We are going to work on it at home though and hopefully next time it won’t feel so weird!

We are going next week and then the week after that, but after that there will be a big break until the ‘new year’ – whatever that means. Mum and Dad have been talking about using that time to get me ‘desexed’ which I am pretty sure means a visit to that awful place mentioned above. There was another really long, confusing and slightly alarming sounding word – ‘gastroplexy’ – yikes!

Anyway there’s another couple of sessions at agility before all that, I can’t wait! Maybe next time we will get Dad to make a video!

P.S. Mum said to say a big SORRY for the quality of the piccies. She said that it was quite dark and she set Dad up with the wrong lens and no flash or tripod and blah blah blah…… [insert camera geek stuff here]. I did try telling her that you guys won’t mind at all but she’s what Dad calls a ‘perfectionist’. Humans are so petty. I think they should just concentrate on the fun things like me getting to play on big toys – WOOOOOOO!!!

Ok bye for now, love and licks, LUNA xxxooo

Cheryl - Luna you are such a beauty and smart! What is a gastroplexy? Is it what they do when you have bloat? and while they are de-sexing they staple your stomach so you wont ever bloat? I am just guessing here?

Leah - Aww Luna, it looks like you had fun :) Tell your mom to take a close up of you coming out of the tunnel, that would be adorable.

Willis - Hey Luna that looks great, thanks for showing me coz my Mum is going to take me too but first she says I have to do basic obedience :-( so no fun fings fur me till next year. Lub n licks Willis (and Deb)

emma c - So Kaya doesn't get to be an Aunty?

Jack and Abby - Thats cool your doing agility now! I have been doing agility for a while now and think its really fun! Abby

Bella - Wow - great job, Luna! I'm so impressed by your athleticism. I usually trip over my own feet, so I'm totally in awe of you! Licks, Bella

Our new couch!

Last weekend, Mum and Dad decided they needed a change. So they started moving stuff around in the room where the computers are. Long story short, we now have a couch in the computer room! Supposedly it’s for the parents when they want to hang out and not have to sit at the computer, so Mum can read her books and Dad can just relax after work. But we know the real reason, it’s for us of course!

Img_3532

It’s so that we can watch Mum work in comfort when she’s doing stuff on her computer…

Img_3433

It’s so Luna can sit on the edge of it and stare aimlessly at the floor (she does this a lot)…

Img_3540

Luna says: "I don’t do that ALL the time, honest! See, here I am being normal. Besides, there are interesting things on the floor, my eyesight is just superior to everyone elses."

Img_3536

Sometimes we have to share the couch with Mum or Dad, but we don’t mind. We usually just lie all over them until they get annoyed and get off again.

Img_3471

Besides, we know that the couch was really put there for OUR benefit.

Img_3473

Leah - The one of Luna looking at the floor is too adorable. I cant wait to get a Great Dane. Im thinking either harlequin or blue, which do you think?

Cheryl - They are dorks, both of them. Spoiled?? yes I do belive so. Danes are hilarious when they sit on the couch with their front feet on the floor!

Chris - Awww, and look at Kaya "sharing" 1/4 of the couch with Dad. She's so sweet!

Emilee - If you have a couch, the dog(s) will eventually own it! Buddy stares at the floor like Luna does, only he's watching for shadows and shiny lights to attack!

Roxanne - Okay, I love looking at Kaya and Luna but I have a question about what is that picture holder on the wall around your computer called? I like, it's so cool.

Charlotte - Roxanne it's from Ikea. It's actually a curtain hanging system! Comes with all the little clips perfect for hanging photos. Leah - I'm partial to the blues but the harlies are gorgeous too. Tough decision!

Roxanne - Thank you Charlotte. I'll have to look that up. Give the girls some belly rubs. :)
