Today was really hot and the air kinda felt wet – we puppies get so stuffed when the weather is like this and just lie around panting, we don’t even have the energy to play! And that’s really saying something!
Mum and Dad thought it would be a good idea to head to the beach for a fish and chips picnic. We often get a few leftover chippies at the end so we were pretty happy about this. We packed up in Fez (Dad’s van), stopped off for food (and got lots of oooh and ahhs at the fish and chips shop) then headed to the beach.
Our beach is special – it has the regular surf side that faces out onto the ocean that we usually go to, but also a calm side that faces the other way so you can see what people call ‘the Broadwater’ – this is the side we went to today so Mum and Dad could eat their fish and chips in peace (there are heaps more doggies and people around the ocean side).
While Mum and Dad were sitting eating they noticed a few clouds gathering. By the time they had finished eating (and we had polished off the rest of the chippies – yum), it had turned into a proper storm!
Us puppies weren’t really that worried, we were more interested in swimming and chasing each other around.
We especially love racing all the way up the beach and scaring the people who were fishing! That was heaps of fun (it’s ok we didn’t do anything to them, though we would have liked to steal their fish).
The storm kept getting closer and closer, with lots of thunder and lightning, but we just kept playing.
All of a sudden, the storm was right on top of us and it started raining!
We raced back to Fez as quick as we could, but we still got a bit wet. It was really windy and the rain was coming right across the ground instead of down from the sky – how weird. We weren’t really scared but it was good to get back into some shelter!
When we got home, Mum looked on the computer at the ‘radar’. I think this is some kind of weird diagram or picture of the storm – though I’ve never clouds that are yellow and red! She said that you guys might be able to make sense of it though.
The beach is right near the place that says ‘Southport’, and we live between ‘Southport’ and ‘Nerang’.
Mum also did clever stuff with putting three photos together and joining them up! You have to click on the picture for a bigger version though, it looks heaps better larger.
We get lots of storms like this around this time of year. Sometimes they do a bit of damage and make the water flood over the ground a bit too much, but most of the time they are pretty fun, especially when there is lots of thunder and lightning!
