About Kaya and Luna

To be revised - Kaya is no longer with us.

Welcome to our photo blog! I'm Kaya, a two year old fawn Great Dane who lives in Australia. I have a sidekick (ok, sister) called Luna. Luna is a Great Dane too, coloured blue (the trendy name for grey) and one year old (nearly one and a half, she reminds me) and used to try and be a show dog. Now she does agility instead!

My special talent is modelling. I get lots of practice because our Mum is a dog photographer, so whenever she doesn't have other dogs to take photos of, she practices on us. I'm very talented at modelling and Luna is well, not quite so talented. She does try though.

We get to do lots of different things with our Mum and Dad - going to the beach is a definite favourite. We love sharing our many adventures with the world through our blog. Oh and we also love receiving comments - hope to hear from you soon!

Help the bushfire doggies!

It’s been a bad weekend for Australia. We don’t really understand much of it, but in Victoria (down the bottom right hand corner of our country) there have been some really bad fires. We know what fires are, but can’t imagine what it would be like if those fires were as big as buildings and burned everything in their path!

It’s very sad, but lots of people have died in the bushfires. Lots of animals have too – people’s pets like dogs, cats and horses, livestock like cows and sheep, plus all the wildlife – kangaroos and birdies. Whole towns have burned down – houses, schools, shops, everything!

I don’t think it would be a very nice place right now, we are very thankful we live where we do.

Anyways we were hoping you guys could do what our Mum has done and help out the poor doggies and their families who have lost their houses and in some cases, lost each other.

If you want to reach out and help the people and their doggies who have been affected by the bushfires, please go to this link, or read below:

MDBA is an organisation in  Australia trying to improve the reputation of dog breeders etc.. here is the intro from their site http://www.mdba.net.au

The MDBA screens their members in an attempt to offer a clear distinction for the pet buyer between a reputable and ethical dog breeder, welfare organisation and pet care worker and  others who may be less ethical. In a nut shell, we have done all we can to  take the risks out of buying a new family dog.

Below is their request for assistance – any help – no  matter how small - will go towards helping those who have lost loved ones,  property and pets from these terrible fires.

Lots of dog people in Vic around Yarra Glen, Warburton, Kilmore, Wondong, Flowerdale and surrounding areas have lost their homes, some their dogs. Many were trapped on roads/properties and unable to get out.

The MDBA has a non profit company – Master Dog Breeders Emergency Aid set up to collect and help where required.

We are now calling for donations urgently to help dog owners who are in dire straights.

This is a truly urgent call for assistance. Even small donations will all help.

Bank details are Commonwealth Bank bsb 064418 account number 10176490

Overseas donations and credit card to PayPal info@mdba.net.au

Please reach out and help these poor doggies and their families.

Jennifer Hayes - I heard about the fires on the news and was worried about you Kaya & Luna and your Mom & Dad. Glad to know you are OK. I've been reading your blog since Kaya was featured on The Daily Puppy. Thanks for the link showing information about how we can help families and their doggies that were affected by the fires. I hope the fires are under control soon. Suzy & Buddy's Mom in Ohio, USA

Susan Bourne - I'm so glad to hear you are ok. I had to get out a world map to find out where you were in relation to the fires to be sure you & Luna and Mum & Dad were ok! My Tuk & Jack send there kisses & licks. Susan in California

ChicagoBeth - I have been so worried about all of you! I, too, had to get out a map to be sure that you are not in harm's way. I have followed your adventures ever since you were the "Puppy of the Day", and have been hooked ever since! Thanks for including the donation website. I just gave $$$-never enough, but every bit helps. Take care, be safe, and thanks for sharing the gift of your family (furry and otherwise)!

Charlotte Reeves - Thanks everyone for thinking of us! We are well out of harms way, about 1700 kilometres (a bit over 1000 miles) away from where the fires are. I believe that some are still burning, days later. There are more stories coming out every day about the losses people have suffered and it brings me to tears almost every time. Thank you so much to those who have donated - every bit helps.

Karen Bennett - We are so glad to hear that you guys are out of harms way. We have some Boxer friends that live in Australia and were frantic when we couldn't get ahold of them. They are ok though, away from the fires as well. We will keep all those families and doggies in our prayers! Love from Boxen and Bella!

Rosalynne - We are thankful you are safe and also for the site that enables us to donate. We are thinking of you, and hope that there will be a swift end to this tragedy. Barks & Kisses: Kirby, Kaley, & Ronnie (KC, Missouri, USA)

Buster - Thanks Kaya & Luna (& Charlotte) for the links! Relieved to hear you're okay. Saddened by events. This was on news feed here (US), hopefully will encourage help. Hearts are with you all. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29123220/wid/18298287?GT1=45002
