The Adventures of Miss Luna bio picture

About Kaya and Luna

To be revised - Kaya is no longer with us.

Welcome to our photo blog! I'm Kaya, a two year old fawn Great Dane who lives in Australia. I have a sidekick (ok, sister) called Luna. Luna is a Great Dane too, coloured blue (the trendy name for grey) and one year old (nearly one and a half, she reminds me) and used to try and be a show dog. Now she does agility instead!

My special talent is modelling. I get lots of practice because our Mum is a dog photographer, so whenever she doesn't have other dogs to take photos of, she practices on us. I'm very talented at modelling and Luna is well, not quite so talented. She does try though.

We get to do lots of different things with our Mum and Dad - going to the beach is a definite favourite. We love sharing our many adventures with the world through our blog. Oh and we also love receiving comments - hope to hear from you soon!

Sharing the Sausages

This is one of our favourite outside toys – the sausages!

2009-02-03-0057

They’re great because they are so easy to share! We can have one each all to ourselves, but still be connected!

2009-02-03-0058

Most of the time we just like to walk around together with the toy.

2009-02-03-0061

It gets a bit crowded when we choose sausages that are right next to each other though.

2009-02-03-0062

Feeling crowded makes us want to have the sausages all to ourselves, so we tug as hard as we can to try and get it off the other doggy!

2009-02-03-0059

Sometimes when Luna gets it off me she goes a bit nutty! She hit Mum with the end of the sausages just after this.

The View from Below

Ever since Dad took some cool photos back when Mum was away in New Zealand, we’ve been wanting Mum to have a go at the same thing! Cos we are taller than most doggies, I reckon it’s how we would look to the little ones.

Either very funny or very scary, no wonder they don’t know what to make of us sometimes!

It’s easy with Luna though, the only thing little dogs would have to worry about with her is laughing to death.

Roxanne - You two crack me up. I love your photos. Your ears, Kaya, are adorable. Luna, I like it that you have to stick your tongue out all the time. :)

Susan Bourne - I think Luna's tongue must just be too big and long for her mouth. It is always out!!! LOL

Help the bushfire doggies!

It’s been a bad weekend for Australia. We don’t really understand much of it, but in Victoria (down the bottom right hand corner of our country) there have been some really bad fires. We know what fires are, but can’t imagine what it would be like if those fires were as big as buildings and burned everything in their path!

It’s very sad, but lots of people have died in the bushfires. Lots of animals have too – people’s pets like dogs, cats and horses, livestock like cows and sheep, plus all the wildlife – kangaroos and birdies. Whole towns have burned down – houses, schools, shops, everything!

I don’t think it would be a very nice place right now, we are very thankful we live where we do.

Anyways we were hoping you guys could do what our Mum has done and help out the poor doggies and their families who have lost their houses and in some cases, lost each other.

If you want to reach out and help the people and their doggies who have been affected by the bushfires, please go to this link, or read below:

MDBA is an organisation in  Australia trying to improve the reputation of dog breeders etc.. here is the intro from their site http://www.mdba.net.au

The MDBA screens their members in an attempt to offer a clear distinction for the pet buyer between a reputable and ethical dog breeder, welfare organisation and pet care worker and  others who may be less ethical. In a nut shell, we have done all we can to  take the risks out of buying a new family dog.

Below is their request for assistance – any help – no  matter how small - will go towards helping those who have lost loved ones,  property and pets from these terrible fires.

Lots of dog people in Vic around Yarra Glen, Warburton, Kilmore, Wondong, Flowerdale and surrounding areas have lost their homes, some their dogs. Many were trapped on roads/properties and unable to get out.

The MDBA has a non profit company – Master Dog Breeders Emergency Aid set up to collect and help where required.

We are now calling for donations urgently to help dog owners who are in dire straights.

This is a truly urgent call for assistance. Even small donations will all help.

Bank details are Commonwealth Bank bsb 064418 account number 10176490

Overseas donations and credit card to PayPal info@mdba.net.au

Please reach out and help these poor doggies and their families.

Jennifer Hayes - I heard about the fires on the news and was worried about you Kaya & Luna and your Mom & Dad. Glad to know you are OK. I've been reading your blog since Kaya was featured on The Daily Puppy. Thanks for the link showing information about how we can help families and their doggies that were affected by the fires. I hope the fires are under control soon. Suzy & Buddy's Mom in Ohio, USA

Susan Bourne - I'm so glad to hear you are ok. I had to get out a world map to find out where you were in relation to the fires to be sure you & Luna and Mum & Dad were ok! My Tuk & Jack send there kisses & licks. Susan in California

ChicagoBeth - I have been so worried about all of you! I, too, had to get out a map to be sure that you are not in harm's way. I have followed your adventures ever since you were the "Puppy of the Day", and have been hooked ever since! Thanks for including the donation website. I just gave $$$-never enough, but every bit helps. Take care, be safe, and thanks for sharing the gift of your family (furry and otherwise)!

Charlotte Reeves - Thanks everyone for thinking of us! We are well out of harms way, about 1700 kilometres (a bit over 1000 miles) away from where the fires are. I believe that some are still burning, days later. There are more stories coming out every day about the losses people have suffered and it brings me to tears almost every time. Thank you so much to those who have donated - every bit helps.

Karen Bennett - We are so glad to hear that you guys are out of harms way. We have some Boxer friends that live in Australia and were frantic when we couldn't get ahold of them. They are ok though, away from the fires as well. We will keep all those families and doggies in our prayers! Love from Boxen and Bella!

Rosalynne - We are thankful you are safe and also for the site that enables us to donate. We are thinking of you, and hope that there will be a swift end to this tragedy. Barks & Kisses: Kirby, Kaley, & Ronnie (KC, Missouri, USA)

Buster - Thanks Kaya & Luna (& Charlotte) for the links! Relieved to hear you're okay. Saddened by events. This was on news feed here (US), hopefully will encourage help. Hearts are with you all. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29123220/wid/18298287?GT1=45002

Our new car!

Today was very exciting! Mum and Dad went out for a while in the morning and came back with a present for us. A new car!

2009-02-01-0009

Mum’s been saying for a while that she wants her own car that she can take both me and Luna in, cos she can only fit one of us in her little blue car at a time (usually me cos I am better behaved in the car). This car looks like it has heaps of room – kind of like a smaller older version of Fez (Dad’s van).

Since Luna is Miss Agility, she loves jumping up on things and she got in first.

2009-02-01-0028

2009-02-01-0031

I was a bit hesitant cos the floor was a bit too slippery for my liking, so Dad kicked Luna out and jumped in to show me how it was done.

2009-02-01-0015

It was still a bit slippery though and I only got halfway up – hey I’m a model, not an athlete!

2009-02-01-0018

Mum found a blanket to put in there for me. I think Dad is going to make a ‘false floor’ with carpet on it soon to put in the back so it will be softer and more grippy.

With the blanket in place, Luna jumped in again straight away.

2009-02-01-0048

Mum decided she wanted to test it out too, so she jumped in the back and I followed. Lots of room for a little car! Though the roof wouldn’t want to be any lower – Luna’s ok but I only just fit height-wise!

2009-02-01-0056

We settled down, took in the view (of our driveway) and decided we liked the new car.

2009-02-01-0058

I can’t wait until Mum can drive it on the road with us in the back! It even has side windows so we can look out as we drive along – much better than Fez.

Apparently it’s a special type of really rare car, there’s hardly any around any more. Can anyone guess what it is? Here’s a couple more shots of it to give you all a clue!

2009-02-01-0014-1

2009-02-01-0082-1

The final clue is, it was made in 1963 – wow, that’s waaaay older than us! So, any guesses?

Allison (Dog Mom) - Wow--what a cool car! We don't know what it is, but we would like to have that much room in our car. Mommee squeezes us into her little Mazda, but we love where we end up (at the park), so we don't complain too much). Have fun in your new ride! Wuv, Gus and Waldo

Jacqueline - Hi Charlotte, Definitely a cool car, it reminds me of my old Austin Freeway, but my partner thinks it maybe a Lada???

Rosalynne - I LOVE it!! Great car, and great shots of Kaya and Luna checking it out.

meg - love the new blog! looks amazing!!

Catherine - Oww! How sick! What a rad car, i LOVE it! I can picture it with the green paws from up the side of this blog on it. hahaha xo

Charlotte Reeves - Good guesses but I think I will have to give you all a hint.. it's a Japanese car and the car make starts with D. Any takers?

Al - It's a 1963 Datsun 1200 Delivery Van V320. A little searching brought up this web site! http://datsun1200.com/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=38467&forum=8&18

Tracy Barker - Charlotte knowingyou - it's got to be a Datsun!!!!!! Tracy & Anna

Tracy Barker - My Mummy says its a Daddo. I don't know what a Daddo is but I like going in cars. My Mummy had a Corolla and now she's got a CRV and I can't jump into it cos I've only got little legs, but Mummy lifts me in and I love sitting in the front with her and I put my head out of the window but she's got me on a harness so I can't jump out. Anna.

Charlotte Reeves - Al was spot on, good work to everyone else too! Hi Tracy and Anna - good to have you here!

claire - i have no clue what kind of car that is but i LOVE it - great classic!! i bet you will have a lot of fun shooting your pups in that...

The Zoo Crew - What a great car! Love it!
