Welcome to our photo blog! I'm Kaya, a two year old fawn Great Dane who lives in Australia. I have a sidekick (ok, sister) called Luna. Luna is a Great Dane too, coloured blue (the trendy name for grey) and one year old (nearly one and a half, she reminds me) and used to try and be a show dog. Now she does agility instead!
My special talent is modelling. I get lots of practice because our Mum is a dog photographer, so whenever she doesn't have other dogs to take photos of, she practices on us. I'm very talented at modelling and Luna is well, not quite so talented. She does try though.
We get to do lots of different things with our Mum and Dad - going to the beach is a definite favourite. We love sharing our many adventures with the world through our blog. Oh and we also love receiving comments - hope to hear from you soon!
It’s been getting a bit cooler at night time lately. I sleep under a blanket and sometimes it falls off when I dream cos I flail around so much. When I get cold I go in and wake Mum up so she gets up and puts my blanket back on me!
In the morning when I first go outside, I like to stand in front of our garage door.
The sunshine goes straight onto the door and I’ve worked out that when I stand in front, it somehow makes the other side of me warm as well! Mum said it’s something to do with the light bouncing off the door. Pfft as if I am going to believe that. Balls bounce, not light!
I like to swap sides every now and then just to make sure I get even warmness.
If ever I get bored just standing basking in the sunshine, there are always little ants and crawly things to watch!
I really need a new coat, I tried mine on from last year and well, let’s just say its a bit too short. My bum sticks out the back! How rude. So Mum is going to get me a new one. I will make sure she takes photos, I might even try some modelling for you all!
Allison (Dog Mom) - Cute pics! Isn't it funny what dogs do in their routines?
Karen - Luna you are so beautiful! I wish we had a garage to stand in front of, it looks like a great idea!
Claire - holy cow is she shiny! what are you feeding that dog??
Jenny - Oh how beautiful you are Luna!! How the sun just makes your beautiful skin sparkle!
Honey the Great Dane - Gosh, Luna - you are so clever to work out that about the garage...I would have no clue!! I usually just find a big yellow circle to lie in because those yellow circles are nice and warm! :)
Hey - you know, my humans got me these really nice fleece coats (well, I wear them as pyjamas) which they ordered from Australia! Maybe you'd like to get something similar? You can choose which colours to get them in and the best thing is they have holes for your front legs to go through, so there are no buckles or anything tying around our tummies and it always stays in place, no matter how much I thrash around when sleeping...and it's very soft and stretchy. If you're interested, let me know and I'll ask my human to dig out the details for you!
Slobbers,
Honey the Great Dane
LilaBean - Such a smart girl! (Not just a pretty face!)
I was just minding my own business tonight, focusing on finding the most comfortable sleeping position on the couch, when I heard a noise out the front! A big car had arrived – and in it (because of course I quickly went out to investigate) were lots and lots of kiddies!
Mum told me they were some of Dad’s family come to visit. There was enough for a whole litter. Though they were different ages, so I’m not sure how that works. Humans do things strangely.
I love it when the kiddies visit, they always give me lots of attention, though they do steal my toys. That’s ok though, lucky I know how to share! There is always lots of fun and running around and playing and often they bring food too! So exciting.
Mum didn’t take any proper photos, but she did take some pictures somehow with her big screen thing that sits on her desk. When she started taking the pictures, none of the kids realised! Ok, so I didn’t either.
Then they spotted themselves on the screen and came over to have a look (yep, I still hadn’t noticed).
Can you count the number of kiddies here? There were heaps! And yes, finally I realised what all the fuss was about. Group photo!
After some more playing and running and chasing and FOOD and fun, they packed themselves back in the big car and went away again. I don’t know where they come from or where they go, but I do love it when the kiddies visit.
Dusty Cat - Luna--you are the star of the group photo! And look at those perfectly behaved ears!
Rosalynne - Luna - your mommy has great ideas for pictures. It looks like you had lots of fun! ;)
Honey the Great Dane - Aw, Luna - those group photos of you with the kiddies are just the sweetest thing!!!
You're so good with kiddies - I don't know what I would do if a whole car of them arrived in my house! I have never lived with kiddies and don't spend a lot of time with them...
Slobbers,
Honey the Great Dane
I’m sure you all remember that our toys live on top of the fridge. You might also remember that I can’t really reach when it comes time to get my toys down, that’s why Kaya always used to get them for us.
So, I decided to take some ‘initiative’, and came up with another solution.
This way, I don’t even need to reach up! I can just hop up onto the bench (no worries for an agile pup like me), browse through the available toys…
Ahliah - smart doggeh!!!
I hopez you took the Cuz! I losts mine at the park, dad sayz he'z ordered a new one...
Angela & Ben - Why go to all the trouble of stretching and risk getting the wrong toy...this way you can browse at you leisure and get the one you really want..CLEVER GIRL!!!! :-))x
Karen - Luna...you are not supposed to let mom and dad see you on the counter. Then they will tell you to stop. That is a great trick though, I wonder if our mom stores our toys on top of the fridge?
Susan Bourne - Ohhhhhh mmmmyyyyyyy. Luna is tricky tricky tricky.
Stacey - OH.MY.GOSH. That is absoluuutely hysterical! Great job, Luna!
elaine - She really got up there by herself? And then you walked into the kitchen to this spectacle?
Cheryl - Charlotte, I love it and I hope you get a little sissy for Luna, I know it is too soon, but I hope you do it!
GSD Adventures - Awesome trick! Those look like some BA toys - how to decide?
Wags,
Pruett and Daphne
jon - What a wonderfully smart girl!
Kirsten - I love her look in the first shot...it says, "what you looking at? you never saw a dog on a counter before?"
Allison (Dog Mom) - Oh my goodness, that is TOO funny!! Mommee laughed out loud on this one!
Wuv,
Gus and Waldo
Roxanne - I love it. I laughed when I saw this. My dog Misty use to help herself by jumping on a chair and getting on the table. Then she'd shop around. Luna, you look so cute beside the fridge. I know you're totally innocent. Hugs and kisses Luna.
Buster - Oh Luna - looks like your agility training has paid off! Clever girl!
Mum - I understand that the rules were no noses on the kitchen bench but who ever said that feet are not allowed? That's lateral thinking.
danielle - I was thinking about Kaya when I saw Luna on the counter...clever girl.
Danielle
Rosalynne - HA! That's the greatest look on your face Luna! You're so smart!
Back when Kaya was around, she used to do most of the talking when it came to important things like telling Dad it was time to the beach and informing Mum that it was breakfast or dinner time. Kaya did most of her talking with her eyes, but I find that a bit harder, so I’ve decided I need to start being a bit more vocal to get my point across!
I’ve been practicing my noises at every opportunity… in the middle of the night letting Mum know to come and cover me back up with my blanket when I get cold (no point in talking to Dad, he doesn’t wake up), telling Mum and Dad they should get out of bed and come play with me in the mornings, suggesting we might go for a walk and most importantly, informing them when I am hungry and they should feed me.
This morning Mum decided to take some moving pictures of me to show you all my talking skills! So! What do you think? Pretty good huh?
Oh and by the way, Mum is back from her trip! Yay! She saw lots of pretty Great Danes and one that even looks a lot like me! If you head on over to Mum’s blog you can see them for yourself.
Emilee - Aw, you're finding your voice, Luna! :) I love how it starts out with just a little whine, then the barking starts!
Jacqueline - Seamus has just started doing the same thing! And add 'the kids have locked me out of their bedroom AGAIN!' - Dont you just love dogs who can rest their heads on the table or counter top, freaks my family out!
Claire - i just played this video and both my girls went nuts talking back to luna. it was like virtual doggie chat! :)
Nancy - Way to use your words Luna!
Honey the Great Dane - Ooh, Luna - you're clever! I haven't learnt to talk at all! My humans even had to encourage me to bark, coz I'm such a quiet dog...they had to make a big fuss of me and praise me if I made even a little woof whenever someone came to the front door...so now I do bark if visitors come. But otherwise, I'm as quiet as a mouse! :-)
Hey - have you picked up your award from me yet? Please do - (it's in the post called "Easter trip, more Awards...and being honest!") and tell us 10 Honest things about yourself!
Slobbers,
Honey the Great Dane
Mariann - Awwww, you have a lovely voice, Luna!! :):)
Roxanne - Luna, my dog Sam does the same. Talks to us when he wants something and barks when he gets excited that he's going on a walk. You have a beautiful voice and I love your ears. :)
Rosalynne - I *loved* watching this! Luna, you are so smart!
Karen - What a beautiful voice you have Luna! Boxen can woowoowoo if mom asks who is at the door but he doesn't talk like you do. You are so smart!
