About Kaya and Luna

To be revised - Kaya is no longer with us.

Welcome to our photo blog! I'm Kaya, a two year old fawn Great Dane who lives in Australia. I have a sidekick (ok, sister) called Luna. Luna is a Great Dane too, coloured blue (the trendy name for grey) and one year old (nearly one and a half, she reminds me) and used to try and be a show dog. Now she does agility instead!

My special talent is modelling. I get lots of practice because our Mum is a dog photographer, so whenever she doesn't have other dogs to take photos of, she practices on us. I'm very talented at modelling and Luna is well, not quite so talented. She does try though.

We get to do lots of different things with our Mum and Dad - going to the beach is a definite favourite. We love sharing our many adventures with the world through our blog. Oh and we also love receiving comments - hope to hear from you soon!

Country Dog

Sometimes when Mum goes out to visit her horsie Rocky, she takes me too, and we go for a ride ‘out the back’.

There’s a biiiiig big paddock out the back of where Rocky lives. It’s full of lush green grass and all sorts of exciting things to explore! Oh, and there’s cows! The cows are pretty curious mostly, they like to follow us. Sometimes they’re really interested in me, I think cos they think I’m one of their babies! I don’t think cows are very bright.

Mum likes riding out the back in the late afternoon when the light is really pretty. She keeps going on about doing a photo shoot out there one day, but it’s kinda hard using a big camera and riding a horse at the same time! So she usually just takes photos with her little camera.

There’s a really cool dam out the back. Sometimes I’m allowed to swim in it, but sometimes it can be pretty muddy and smelly cos the cows use it.

When we get back to the horsey place, I know where I’m going and run off ahead.

Hanging out with Rocky is fun, he’s pretty cool, he’s used to me now! I love being a country dog!

judy - Luna you are so lucky to have so many adventures--and so many friends! Please thank your mum for the wonderful pictures she shares with us.

Underwater Fun

Mum has a special camera that she can take under the water, how fun! She took some video of me as well as some photos. I don’t actually put my head under the water (except when I’m dunking for semi-floating sticks, oh, and chasing coconuts) so I never really see what goes on under there. It’s actually pretty cool!

I don’t really know how I swim, I just kinda run under the water and somehow I get where I want to go.

The only problem is, when I have rather big claws. Mum keeps them trimmed so they’re not sharp, but they are still pretty big!

If someone gets in the way of them when I’m swimming, sometimes I kinda accidentally, well, ‘get’ them. And this is what happens. This is my friend Brielle. Well, she’s actually Mum’s friend, but I like her so much I call her my friend too! I’m sowwy Brielle…..

My boyfriend Lupe was at the beach too. He doesn’t really like swimming just yet, but we’re trying to convince him it’s fun!

I like swimming with my Mum. It makes me happy. Our friend Brielle took these awesome photos of us!

Sometimes underwater I cheat and put my back legs on the ground.

Then Mum grabs my front legs and I can stand just like a person!

A lot of the time I just kinda float around by myself though. It helps having an amazing floating bum.

When I finally got out of the water, after neglecting my boyfriend Lupe (sorry Lupe! I just really love swimming!) we had time for a quick dig around in the sand together.

You can always tell how much fun digging is, by how much sand you get on your face. Lupe had a lot of fun, obviously. I still think he’s handsome though!

Brielle - I love you Miss Luna xoxox You're one of my BESTEST friends!! Most of my best friends have 4 legs! except for your Mummy x

jen hague - So fun! I love the underwater photo and video abilities. Great Danes are such amazing creatures. I just love them and admire you for taking such good care of Luna!

Paula - I can't get enough of the underwater photos! Would love to try this with my male dane, but he'd be trying to climb on top of me, resulting in those familiar scratches! May I add your link to my blogroll on my site? I will delete it if you would rather not. Thanks.

Me and the Kiddies

We visited Mum’s friend a couple of weeks ago. She has two little girls, they’ve started walking now so we decided to go for a walk to the park so we could all run around together! They have a doggie called Rusty, he’s pretty cool. I think he likes me cos he kept trying to kiss me all the time. He’s alright, but he needs to do something about his smell – or stop rolling in dead stuff in the park! Ugh!

Rusty LOVES his girls though and they love him too. He’s so patient with them!

The girls like taking Rusty for a walk, so we decided to let them take me for a walk too. I had to be really careful and stick close to Mum so I didn’t pull them over!

I reckon I did a pretty good job!

I even posed for some photos with them, all pretty like.

Then had my moment in the spotlight, the sunshine was nice and warm.

All that babysitting and modelling work is pretty taxing, so when we got back to Mum’s friend’s place, it was time for a rest. On Mum, of course.

So you all know how much I love swimming. Now I have an awesome video to prove it! We went to the beach on the weekend with Archie, Mum and her fun friend Brielle and they took lots of video and photos of me swimming around with Mum’s special camera that goes underwater! There are pictures to come, but in the meantime here’s the video -
