The Adventures of Miss Luna bio picture

About Kaya and Luna

To be revised - Kaya is no longer with us.

Welcome to our photo blog! I'm Kaya, a two year old fawn Great Dane who lives in Australia. I have a sidekick (ok, sister) called Luna. Luna is a Great Dane too, coloured blue (the trendy name for grey) and one year old (nearly one and a half, she reminds me) and used to try and be a show dog. Now she does agility instead!

My special talent is modelling. I get lots of practice because our Mum is a dog photographer, so whenever she doesn't have other dogs to take photos of, she practices on us. I'm very talented at modelling and Luna is well, not quite so talented. She does try though.

We get to do lots of different things with our Mum and Dad - going to the beach is a definite favourite. We love sharing our many adventures with the world through our blog. Oh and we also love receiving comments - hope to hear from you soon!

Category Archives: At Home

I’m baaack!

Ok so Mum ended up caving and has decided to keep posting my stories here instead of on her own la-di-dah “professional” photography blog. Good! I like my home here thanks Mum!

She did want me to mention though, that with her job and her photography stuff and taking care of me and her horsie Rocky and all the other things she gets up to, she won’t be posting very often. But that’s better than not at all, right?

Mum also wanted me to let everyone know the situation with her and my Dad. They actually aren’t together any more, which is kinda sad, but as Mum explained, these things happen in life! I actually live with Dad for most of the week but still get to spend time with Mum a few days a week too. So Mum doesn’t get to see me nearly as much, but when she comes and gets me, I get pretty excited cos I know we are off to do something fun!

We often go to the beach, or out to see Rocky, and of course we always go for lots of walks too. When I stay the night, I even get to sleep on the bed!

As soon as Mum wakes up, I know I need to get stuck into hassling her to go do something exciting (I LOVE my morning walks) or she might fall asleep again! I’ve noticed humans tend to do that, how lazy! I make sure I have her attention by staring at her, making yowling noises and sighing heavily and frequently. Here’s my stare.

When I know she’s definitely awake and getting out of bed, it’s time for my to make my departure from the bed too. I like to do this by putting my front feet on the ground and walking away with them, while doing a bit STREEETTCCHHH and a yawn for good measure.

This is Mum’s house. She has a nice front patio with a bed on it so I can lay out here and survey the front yard. Guard dog duties apply at both my houses! It’s how I earn my keep apparently. I’m a pretty awesome guard dog too, I have a really scary deep bark! I like scaring people who I haven’t met before, it’s kinda fun. Though I have to stop when Mum tells me to “shush”. What a killjoy.

We were just about to head out the front gate for our walk, when I decided that I better check the perimeter.

I once saw a cat in the far corner of the yard. Now everytime I look over there, I’m sure I see it again! I bet it lurks in the bushes all the time, just to keep me on my toes. So I always have to run over and check and do a big scary WUFF, just to make sure.

Mum lives in a really quiet street, so we practice my offlead walking and road sense.  Not that I really need much practice, I’m pretty darn awesome at this. Do you know, I’m so good, that if Mum runs onto the road, yelling and jumping up and down even, I still won’t follow her onto the road?

I just sit there on the edge, waiting for her to say the magic word (which is OK!). Then I always make sure I stick nice and close to Mum, and then get off the road quickly. Roads are pretty bad places for doggies to be, so I’m pretty glad Mum and Dad put the time into teaching me this!

We’re soon at the fun walking place! It’s basically a canal that runs along the back of some houses, with a walking track.

It’s a great place to sniff around because lots of other doggies get walked there too and there’s always something new to smell.

I like to call it “catching up on the gossip”.

Of course there is always time for a bit of posing action. It’s a bit of a deal we have going these days, I do some modelling work in exchange for Mum taking me fun places like this. Works for me!

On the walk, we get to go through a little tunnel thing, it’s kinda like being in a forest!

We have to cross a bridge, and then a pretty busy road next, so Mum puts me on the lead.

On the side of the busy road, we stop, I sit, and we both look for cars. First left -

Then right!

Next we walk down a short street past some houses, before getting to one of my favourite places! Mum makes me stay, and wait until she says OK.

Then I race off onto the sand!

This is what me and Mum call ‘the little beach’. It’s not a real surf beach, like most of the ones we go to on the Gold Coast, but there is sand. It’s actually part of the canals and river that  sit in behind where the surf beaches are. There are lots of flash houses on the water that have their own jetties and boats! Would be pretty cool to live on the water, cos then I could go swimming ALL the time – I love swimming!

Anyway here’s a link showing where our little beach is.

There’s a nice park with a playground next to the little beach and we often see other people walking and swimming their dogs there too.

Mum took sooo many photos that it’s just too many for one post, but she’s going to do another post that has the rest of them, hopefully soonish!

Love and licks, Luna xxoo

Izzy and Me

Well, I’ve been heavily berating Mum for her lack of postings lately and I’m happy to say, it’s finally paid off! You’ve already met Izzy from the sneak peek post a while back… she’s very little… (well compared to me anyway)

2009-08-15-0504

Izzy came to visit me for a whole weekend! She’s a 9 week old Great Dane x Ridgeback x Mastiff (mostly Great Dane though) and her colour is called brindle, isn’t it pretty? Izzy likes to chew on sticks, I guess that’s the Great Dane in her coming out.

2009-08-15-0523

Unfortunately, she also likes chewing on me.

2009-08-15-0535

I put up with it, she’s just a little puppy…

2009-08-15-0538

She does have very sharp little teeth though!

2009-08-15-0541

I make sure I don’t bite her with my teeth, so I end up looking a bit gummy.

2009-08-15-0542

Izzy seemed to have a bit of a fascination with my belly. I think I might have reminded her of her mummy?

2009-08-15-0577 2009-08-15-0578

Mum thought Izzy was very pretty, and talked her into doing some modelling. She didn’t do a bad job, for a newbie!

2009-08-15-0583

2009-08-15-0589 2009-08-15-0603

2009-08-15-0587

Okay, so Izzy is just a little bit too cute and a little bit too good at the whole modelling thing. I had to think fast! I didn’t want her taking over my job, so I thought I better regain my superiority. What better way than proving my dominance with the stick! I lulled her into a false sense of security…

2009-08-15-0610 2009-08-15-0612

Drew her in, let her think she had a chance, then boom! I was off! No catching me!

2009-08-15-0615 2009-08-15-0616

It was kinda nice having Izzy to visit, someone to play with is always good! Maybe one day I will get another sister or maybe even a brother, but for now, it’s pretty cool being the centre of attention all the time!

Love and licks, Luna xo

Ahliah - She's real purdy...

Road Testing

One of my Mum’s friends has two Great Danes – a harlequin boy called Dante and a black girl called Leila. Dante just loves to play tug games, so she’s decided to start making them herself. To make sure the toys she was making were strong enough, she sent out some special toy samples to all her friends doggies, and lucky me scored two of these new tug toys to test and play with!

2009-07-29-0028

I actually much prefer just trotting around with it in my mouth and having people chase me. Mum pretended to chase me but kept stopping to take photos.

2009-07-29-0017 2009-07-29-0018

I don’t think she quite understood the concept of my game. But being the good doggy I am and following in my older sisters pawprints, I thought I better oblige and be a willing model, at least for a little while.

2009-07-29-0024 2009-07-29-0026

Just as long as we got to play afterwards! Mum insisted we get some photos of us using the tug toys for what it was intended. I nearly pulled her over, it was great!!

2009-07-29-0033 2009-07-29-0042

This is actually pretty fun!

2009-07-29-0044

If you like the look of these tug toys, you can go here to a special page just for my friends, to find out more about getting your very own. Oh and if you want to see more road testing, go here.

Meanwhile, big news! It’s my second birthday on Saturday! This time Mum isn’t away so we will get to do something fun like maybe go to the beach. That’s what I’ve been hinting at anyway. Some pancakes would be good too, Mum! Hint hint! Maybe a special pleading look will do the trick…

2009-07-29-0049

Simon - Your mum takes very nice photos Luna! Your good looks help, of course...Have a nice birthday.

Murphydog - those look like some great tugs! I went to your friends website to check it out and saw a another pretty blue dane on there with a great looking blue coat on. Do you know where that dane found that coat? Was it handmade? I live in San Diego and while it doesnt get all that cold here, I'm a wimp and my Mom is always looking for coats that fit a big boy like me! Thanks! Murphydog

Angela & Ben - Great pics Luna, and your new toy looks fun!!!! Oh and...Happy Birthday for Saturday!!!!! I'm sure your Mum & Dad will spoil you loads!!! xx

Roxanne - I'll make you pancakes Luna. You are so adorable. Happy Barkday, you beautiful girl. Hope you get spoiled and with a face like that, who can say no to you.

Mr Darcy - Herro Luna! You make a very good model, especially with your pleading face! Ooooh I love tug - it is my favourite game of all! That tug toy looks very good. I can't play tug at the moment but I am hoping I will be able to play it again someday. smooches, Mr Darcy

My Blankie

Since Mum STILL hasn’t gotten around to buying me a nice new winter coat, and since my one from last winter doesn’t fit me any more, I have to make do with being draped with this attractive blue blankie. In fact, I’ve become quite attached to my blankie and wish it would stay on when I walk around. When it falls off, I have to look sad and cold until someone puts it on me again.

This morning, it was a bit chilly and I was just keeping warm, lying down, under my blankie.

2009-05-04-0024

I quite like it when someone pulls it all the way down, cos my face gets cold too sometimes!

2009-05-04-0027 2009-05-04-0028

It’s quite cosy under there! And if I’m snoozing (which I do rather a lot) I don’t need to see anyway.

2009-05-04-0029

Except, when exciting things happen. Exciting things could happen at any time, and range from someone getting the cheese out in the kitchen, to perhaps someone getting ready to go out, and maybe taking me with them! In this case,  I need to be alert, really quickly!

2009-05-04-0031

This time, it was just Dad wanting to give me a kiss. Not exactly what I would usually consider exciting, but I suppose it was for Dad. Have to consider his feelings you know.

2009-05-04-0032 2009-05-04-0033

Ooh, ok that was DEFINITELY something exciting, Dad just went to the kitchen!

2009-05-04-00361

Is it worth investigating, and potentially losing my blankie?

2009-05-04-0042

Yep, definitely. Hang in there, blankie!

2009-05-04-0058 2009-05-04-0061

Mmmm totally worth it, I found some goodies that Dad dropped on the floor!

2009-05-04-00631 2009-05-04-0065

And, my blankie even stayed on! Well, mostly. I will probably still have to do the sad, cold face to get them to fix it up properly for me.

2009-05-04-0072

leesia - aww, so adorable!
