About Kaya and Luna

To be revised - Kaya is no longer with us.

Welcome to our photo blog! I'm Kaya, a two year old fawn Great Dane who lives in Australia. I have a sidekick (ok, sister) called Luna. Luna is a Great Dane too, coloured blue (the trendy name for grey) and one year old (nearly one and a half, she reminds me) and used to try and be a show dog. Now she does agility instead!

My special talent is modelling. I get lots of practice because our Mum is a dog photographer, so whenever she doesn't have other dogs to take photos of, she practices on us. I'm very talented at modelling and Luna is well, not quite so talented. She does try though.

We get to do lots of different things with our Mum and Dad - going to the beach is a definite favourite. We love sharing our many adventures with the world through our blog. Oh and we also love receiving comments - hope to hear from you soon!

Mum has been cheating on us!!!

Well finally today we got PROOF that Mum’s been doing the dirty on her two favourite, faithful companions (me and Luna of course). It all fits together now – the long hours away in the afternoons when she arrives back home smelling… different. Not bad, just different, in a distinctly animalistic kind of way.

Well tonight, we discovered some PHOTO EVIDENCE on her computer!

So behold, Mum canoodling with the culprit!!

Update: Ok, so Mum has informed us that we have nothing to worry about. At first we thought he was some kind of overgrown Great Dane that let Mum ride him (how could we ever compete with that??) but Mum assures us he is a different species. A horse in fact. So, since he’s not a doggy like us, technically she’s not actually cheating on us. Phew!

So a bit about ‘the horse’. His name is ‘Rocky’ and he’s a ‘thoroughbred’ (kind of like us, we are ‘thoroughbred’ Great Danes), he’s 13 years old (wow! old!) and he’s 15.3 hands high. Whatever that means. He used to be a racing horsey (again, kind of like me, I race other doggies at the beach) and he is from New Zealand! Which is apparently some cold, small little country overseas somewhere.

Mum says that one day we will get to meet him in person! Uh… horse… dog.. let me try again… one day we get to meet him for real! I hope he likes us and doesn’t try and stomp on us with those big hard looking feets.

Anyways we are a bit excited, a bit envious, but a LOT relieved! Mum still loves us, yay!

Comment

Arabella - That's some cool horse, you must be very exited to meet him. I get to see horses every once and a while when we go trail hiking, they're really big. Bigger even than great danes.

Emilee - You girls must tell your mum that I'm jealous! The horse I used to ride just moved somewhere else, and I'm absolutely heartbroken. I'd do anything to jump back on one right now. I hope you have fun meeting Rocky!

Chris - My horse is only 14.2 hands, cause she's a quarter horse. But she would LOVE you puppies! She loves the ones she lives with at least. Yea for horseys and puppies!

A Visit from Spot

We had a visitor today! His name is Spot and he is a little white doggy with a big black spot on his back. His people didn’t have much trouble naming him, obviously! Spot belongs to one of Mum’s friends who often has to go away for a few days for work. This time, Spot came to visit us and stay the night!

Spot was pretty chilled out, just like me and Luna I guess. He even had a cuddle with Luna on the couch!

Img_2069

I’m not sure Luna was too impressed, but she made him feel welcome all the same…

Img_2064

Then we went outside to play. Mum and Dad call Spot ‘such a boy’ – which I guess refers to him running around peeing on everything in sight as soon as he goes outside.

Img_2074

Luna thought it was a bit weird, so kept an eye on him. And an ear out for other stuff that was going on. She’s a bit multi-talented, our Luna.

Img_2072

Spot even did a bit of posing for Mum:

Mum decided she may as well turn our front yard play session into a bit of a photo session instead, so she gave us some modelling instructions. We all listened:

First it was my turn. I was happy about this! I think I’m getting a bit more dignified looking lately, don’t you agree? I think it’s the grey coming out on my muzzle.

Luna and Spot were checking out some people walking past:

Mum did some close-ups of Luna. I kind of envy her cool coloured hair sometimes. I wish I was a blue doggy too!

Img_2312

People do say we look good together though. And it’s kind of nice to be different.

I lay down next to Luna while she sunk her teeth into the local newspaper.

Reflecting on the day’s news:

We watched some birdies fly over:

Then we spotted Spot! (hehe, I’m so funny)

Img_2403_2

I think he felt a bit left out, so I invited him to come over and sit with us.

Img_2408

I said sorry for leaving him out.

Img_2270

I like it when we have friends over to visit! It’s lucky that Mum and Dad have lots of friends with doggies, so we get to meet new friends and catch up with old friends all the time!

Oh, and if you want to see when me and Spot first met, you have to check out our old blog! See the Party Time post here.

Lisa - Wonderful set, you all look great. And yes, you look more dignified every day! I hope you enjoy the visit.

Christy - As always, everyone looks magnificent! Kaya - you're gorgeous! Luna - you're getting to be such a big girl! And pretty, too, of course!

Jackie - Kaya, you are so beautiful and distinguished! Your sister is lovely and your friend Spot is so cute. I'm glad to see you are getting along better than in the partytime post. P.S. Your coloring is gorgeous!

Ashlee - I hadn't even realized you moved until now. Will look forward to following you here, too!

Meeting Maple (by Luna)

Well FINALLY I get to have my own post again – and on the flash new blog! I think Kaya was being a bit of a hog, don’t you? Blog hog! Anyways, here is the story of when me and Kaya met Maple!

Maple is a Cocker Spaniel and belongs to Mum and Dad’s friends. They came to stay with us for the night and we got to play lots! Maple is only 4 months old (I’m 5 months) but she acts like a big dog – she wasn’t scared by us at all!

Img_6997

She was HEAPS of fun so I let her climb all over me. She had very sharp little teeth though! This is her standing on my head. I really didn’t mind, cos she is such a cool puppy…

Img_7003

There’s only a month between us! You wouldn’t know it! I am so much bigger. Kaya was doing the annoying worried older sister act. Pfft. Like anything could go wrong. Worry wart!

Img_7012

Having a little rest from the fun…

Img_7015

I can fit almost her whole head in my mouth if I try! Kaya definitely can. That’s a fun game! The humans looked a little worried but they just need to chill out. Us doggies know what we are doing!

Img_7016

I tried hiding from Maple but I’m just too tall, and she’s just too smart! Kaya told me later that when you hide, you have to hide all of your body, not just your head, cos they can still see the rest of you even if you can’t see them. Hmmm, good advice. I will take that on board.

Img_7022

Kaya even let Maple climb all over her too! Maple sure likes biting. I am told she will grow out of it though so that’s ok.

Img_7010

Wow, Maple is really little. I wonder if I was ever that little? I wonder how big she will grow? Such a funny little thing!

Img_7024

Mum also took some video of us playing with Maple, so you can see how good we were with her! I hope we get to play with her again soon.

OH and you can also see more photos of us and Maple from when we went to the beach the next day! Just check out Maple’s Mum’s blog post Life is Good and The Spit.
