The Adventures of Miss Luna bio picture

About Kaya and Luna

To be revised - Kaya is no longer with us.

Welcome to our photo blog! I'm Kaya, a two year old fawn Great Dane who lives in Australia. I have a sidekick (ok, sister) called Luna. Luna is a Great Dane too, coloured blue (the trendy name for grey) and one year old (nearly one and a half, she reminds me) and used to try and be a show dog. Now she does agility instead!

My special talent is modelling. I get lots of practice because our Mum is a dog photographer, so whenever she doesn't have other dogs to take photos of, she practices on us. I'm very talented at modelling and Luna is well, not quite so talented. She does try though.

We get to do lots of different things with our Mum and Dad - going to the beach is a definite favourite. We love sharing our many adventures with the world through our blog. Oh and we also love receiving comments - hope to hear from you soon!

A perfect winters day at the beach – Part 2

So I guess you all want to see my new talent huh? Well, you know how I am such a water baby and have been since I was really little? We decided to take it a bit further and do ‘water launching’!

First, I went over the other side of the shallow water with Dad.

2009-06-06-0036

Then Mum called me back, and I ran and launched myself into the water to get to her!

2009-06-06-0039

They decided that I didn’t make a big enough splash, so we tried something different. Dad told me to sit and stay (which I am very, very good at) and then he walked back over to where Mum was, leaving me sitting there all alone!

2009-06-06-0040

That was more like it! Now I had a big reason to want to get back over to them with both of them on the other side, I made a BIG splash this time!

2009-06-06-0034

Now I was really getting the hang of it, making a big splash is FUN! Check it out, you can hardly see me at all in this one.

2009-06-06-0050

Dad eventually just worked out if that they threw a stick over the other side of the water, I’d go get it and then race back. Means he didn’t have to wade through the cold water, he was happy about that. Bit of a wuss, I reckon.

I looove splashing around in the water…

2009-06-06-0043

2009-06-06-0044

Here’s an especially big splash that Mum managed to get – almost there…

2009-06-06-0060

And SPLASH!!

2009-06-06-0061

Pretty cool huh? I really love the water (can’t you tell?)

When I was done water launching, Mum decided she wanted a model pic of me so we went through the water to the side (the things Mum will do for a nice photo).

Part 3 coming soon, stay tuned!

Honey the Great Dane - Oh Luna! How brave of you to splash in the water like that!! I have only just got up the courage to go into the water and swim! (yes, after 5yrs)...I don't think I'd ever be as brave as you! That last picture of you is just gorgeous!!! My human really wishes she could take pictures of me like that - where I'm all clear and the background is all blurry... Slobbers, Honey the Great Dane

Allison (Dog Mom) - BOL, Luna, those are PAWSOME! We thought that Waldo was the only crazy water-loving Dane out there--we think you might have him beat! Way to go! Wuv, Gus and Waldo

GSD Adventures - Beautiful photos! Can't wait to have a beach trip with Pruett and Daphne.

Four Musketeers - WOW ! Love the way you splashhhhh ! :)

Jackie - Luna, you look so happy when you splash in the water. It is good to see/hear your voice coming through. You look beautiful all wet, so shiny and blue!

Karen - Luna what a wonderful water dog you are! I love to make splashes like that too! Wish I could come and swim with you but we are too far away. That last picture is really great, you are turning into quite the model. Kisses Bella

Rosalynne - Those are great Luna, ur our hero! Doesn't the water get in ur ears and nose? We don't like the water....it gets us wet! But mom loves to take us by surpise and spray us with the hose in the backyard. (good think the hose doesn't reach all the way to the back part of the fence! haha) Kirby, Kaley, & Ronnie

Jonathan - There's nothing quite like the joy of a dog when they're doing something they love. Glad to see you all having a good time.

Jenny - Luna those are the best splashes ever! The last pick of you being such a lady is just beautiful.

A perfect winters day at the beach – Part 1

It’s been raining lots and lots here lately, but today when we woke up, it was all sunshine and blue skies. A perfect day to go to the beach! We made sure it was low tide cos there is much more beach to run around on when it’s low.

At first, there didn’t seem to be many people there.

2009-06-06-0008

But turns out, everyone was over playing in some shallow water left over by the outgoing tide.

2009-06-06-0009

We went over and checked it out.

2009-06-06-0012

And I made some friends with the other doggies hanging out in the pools too. Most of the friends I make are shorter than me, so when they are swimming, I am still standing on the bottom!

2009-06-06-0025

Even though it’s winter here now, some people were still swimming. The water was kinda cold, but not that bad!

2009-06-06-0022

Here’s me hanging out with my new gang!

2009-06-06-0028

2009-06-06-0029

I love making new friends at the beach!

2009-06-06-0049

Make sure you keep watching for our next blog post, I have a new trick I can’t wait to show everyone!

Stripe & Nitro - Brrrrrrr too cold for us down here to venture to the beach miss Luna, but enjoyed reading your beach trip and looki at the pics

Stacey - Yep.... sure looks like winter alright... :-/ (amazing photos as always, but I'm incredibly jealous you consider bikinis "winter")

Jenny - Luna you look so beautiful in the water. I love the pictures of you and your friends.

Honey the Great Dane - Oh, Luna - I just always LOVE your photos!!! Don't know if you saw my post about my human going to Camera School every Mon night now, because she wants to learn to take better pictures and know what all the buttons on her camera are for. Most of all, she wanted to take pictures of me like the ones of you - where you are all clear and sharp - but everything is blurry in the background! She LOVES those pictures - how does your human do them?? And those fantastic action shots of you playing with other dogs - I can almost see every drop of water!!! Slobbers, Honey the Great Dane

meg - so jealous of your winters!!! that looks like summer for us in the NE USA!

Allison (Dog Mom) - Ooh--we love the pictures! It looks so refreshing! Can't believe it's winter there--it looks like a perfect day! wuv, Gus and Waldo

Three Amigos

Some mornings, me and Mum head off to the beach really early and meet up with Mum’s friend for a walk. We take Mum’s little blue car cos Dad doesn’t wake up that early, so that means only I can fit – Luna misses out! It’s special me and Mum time, I think Luna understands though (she doesn’t mind sleeping in with Dad anyways).

Sometimes we have the beach all to ourselves in the mornings.

2009-02-19-0002

The morning light is really nice, though it can get a bit glarey on the water! I usually trot off for a quick swim anyway though.

2009-02-19-0003

I usually have two partners in crime on our early morning beach walks – Mum’s friend’s doggies – Spot and Boss.

2009-02-19-0008 2009-02-19-0010

We all get along pretty well, even though we are all different sizes!

2009-02-19-0021

Being up in the dunes is nice in the morning, we like to stand up there and survey our domain.

2009-02-19-0023

We take turns keeping a lookout.

2009-02-19-0025

2009-02-19-0030

When we’re done, we like to cool off with a swim in the surf.

2009-02-19-0033

What a great way to start the day!

Catherine - Oww, so special. xo

Susan Bourne - What a lucky girl Kaya is to get special alone time with Mum. I would like to see a picture of Luna at home sleeping in with Dad, though. I wonder if she crowds Dad the way my baby Jack crowds me!

Allison (Dog Mom) - Dat is soooo beewootiful!! We wishez we had beeches neer arr howse, but we have lots of cornfeelds insted. Yur palies look like a lot of fun! Wuv, Gus and Waldo

Tatelina from DOL - WOW! I love your photos! And great story lines!! :D :D :D

Water Babies

You might remember our friend Maple from a post a while ago from when we first met her. We have seen Maple a couple of times since, but this time we went for a trip to the beach and found out we have a lot more in common than we first thought.

Just because we went to the beach with Maple and her Mum and Dad, didn’t mean we could forget our manners. We had to stay in the car and wait until Dad said ‘OK’ (after which we raced off like lunatics – not pictured).

2009-01-04-0002

After we got to the beach we were straight into the water!

2009-01-04-0005

Luna and I decided to show off a little and got stuck into fetching sticks.

2009-01-04-0009

2009-01-04-0049

Turns out Miss Maple had a few tricks of her own!

2009-01-04-0014

This water baby has really awesome hair, it’s longer than ours and almost turns into silk in the water, very cool!

2009-01-04-0018

Plus, she not only swims, she DIVES! Her Dad shows her where to go…

2009-01-04-0025

And next thing, she’s underwater!

2009-01-04-0029

Pretty amazing huh! A trick we need to practice I think!

Luna tried to draw some attention by doing her statue impersonation.

2009-01-04-0040

Not to be totally out-done, I thought I better dig one of my famous holes. The wetter, the better!

2009-01-04-0078

2009-01-04-0079

Maple just keep fetching stuff from the water. Her parents found a plastic shovel. She fetched it from the deep water, even in waves from passing boats! This girl is like a fish in the water.

2009-01-04-0092

Dad jumped in for a swim so we had to follow him of course.

2009-01-04-0104

While Maple decided she had had enough, and went for a run along the beach to dry off.

2009-01-04-0119

We had a great time at the beach with Maple! She’s a real water baby, just like us. I hope she gets to visit again soon!
