Welcome to our photo blog! I'm Kaya, a two year old fawn Great Dane who lives in Australia. I have a sidekick (ok, sister) called Luna. Luna is a Great Dane too, coloured blue (the trendy name for grey) and one year old (nearly one and a half, she reminds me) and used to try and be a show dog. Now she does agility instead!
My special talent is modelling. I get lots of practice because our Mum is a dog photographer, so whenever she doesn't have other dogs to take photos of, she practices on us. I'm very talented at modelling and Luna is well, not quite so talented. She does try though.
We get to do lots of different things with our Mum and Dad - going to the beach is a definite favourite. We love sharing our many adventures with the world through our blog. Oh and we also love receiving comments - hope to hear from you soon!
Mum and I haven’t been doing much training lately, but today she decided we should get back into it, so she grabbed some treats and we headed out into the front yard.
If you will notice, we don’t have a front fence any more! But that’s ok cos there is a massive pile of wood in our garage all ready to make a big new fence. Even though I’m not looking forward to it cos it means I won’t be able to wander over and say hello to people when they walk past any more.
Anyways, Dad took some video pictures of our training session! I remembered most things! But still need some practice. Oh and I’d love to learn some new tricks, if anyone has any suggestions? At the end of the video Mum tried to teach me a new ‘through the legs’ trick which is fun, so some more like that would be good!
Oh oh and if you make it all the way to the end, you can see me looking at the birdies. I like doing this. Though Mum says it makes me look a bit ’special’.
P.S. Mum says that for the video picture to look really good, you have to click on the little ‘HQ’ button, after it starts playing!
Amber-Mae - Aww good job Luna! Keep up the training. Would love to see what else you will learn in the future.
Smoochies,
Solid Gold Dancer + Puppies
Honey the Great Dane - Hi Luna - that is so cool! You are one well-trained girl :) I especially like your bow - you do it so beautifully, with your bum in the air. I'm really lazy when the I do my bows and I always try to see if I can get away with just going down halfway! :)
Hey - I learnt the "going through legs" trick in a slightly different way. You might like to try it because it seems to be a bit easier for us to learn in the beginning - my human made a video of me learning it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5FikpSFDzA Basically, your human gets you used to putting your head through her legs and then walking through her legs first - by throwing a treat through her legs and getting you to go through her legs to get it. Then once you're comfortable doing that, it's really easy to get you to go through and then come round the front.
As for a new trick - how about "marching legs"? I just posted a video about how I learnt that the other day - maybe you'd like to give it a try? Here is the post: http://bighoneydog.com/marching-legs-trick/
Happy training!
Slobbers,
Honey the Great Dane
Maura - Oh wow- I didn't realize how big/tall Luna had become! Such a good girl! That crazed "looking for the birdies" look is just like what Bones does when you even say the word SQUIRRELS! He knows they're somewhere!
Rosalynne - hahaha! where's the bird, where's the bird??? that's great! Kaley gets so mad at the squirrels and birds, that she bites and pulls the bark off the trees. i swear she's gotta be using some bad doggie language!!
Allison (Dog Mom) - Great job, Luna! You are learning some great tricks! Keep up the good work. :)
Wuv,
Gus and Waldo
Jenny - Luna you are so very smart!!! My Palmer loves to try to catch the squirrels... he even thinks he can climb trees sometimes.
Nic, Stripe & Nitro - you are such a clever girl Luna, we loves visiting your blog
Julie - My dog learned to look for parrots when we lived in San Francisco for a summer (they have a wild flock there that was somehow imported), and the entire time while I watched Luna's video, he was searching out the window of our Manhattan apartment for the parrots he could hear!
Back when Kaya was around, she used to do most of the talking when it came to important things like telling Dad it was time to the beach and informing Mum that it was breakfast or dinner time. Kaya did most of her talking with her eyes, but I find that a bit harder, so I’ve decided I need to start being a bit more vocal to get my point across!
I’ve been practicing my noises at every opportunity… in the middle of the night letting Mum know to come and cover me back up with my blanket when I get cold (no point in talking to Dad, he doesn’t wake up), telling Mum and Dad they should get out of bed and come play with me in the mornings, suggesting we might go for a walk and most importantly, informing them when I am hungry and they should feed me.
This morning Mum decided to take some moving pictures of me to show you all my talking skills! So! What do you think? Pretty good huh?
Oh and by the way, Mum is back from her trip! Yay! She saw lots of pretty Great Danes and one that even looks a lot like me! If you head on over to Mum’s blog you can see them for yourself.
Emilee - Aw, you're finding your voice, Luna! :) I love how it starts out with just a little whine, then the barking starts!
Jacqueline - Seamus has just started doing the same thing! And add 'the kids have locked me out of their bedroom AGAIN!' - Dont you just love dogs who can rest their heads on the table or counter top, freaks my family out!
Claire - i just played this video and both my girls went nuts talking back to luna. it was like virtual doggie chat! :)
Nancy - Way to use your words Luna!
Honey the Great Dane - Ooh, Luna - you're clever! I haven't learnt to talk at all! My humans even had to encourage me to bark, coz I'm such a quiet dog...they had to make a big fuss of me and praise me if I made even a little woof whenever someone came to the front door...so now I do bark if visitors come. But otherwise, I'm as quiet as a mouse! :-)
Hey - have you picked up your award from me yet? Please do - (it's in the post called "Easter trip, more Awards...and being honest!") and tell us 10 Honest things about yourself!
Slobbers,
Honey the Great Dane
Mariann - Awwww, you have a lovely voice, Luna!! :):)
Roxanne - Luna, my dog Sam does the same. Talks to us when he wants something and barks when he gets excited that he's going on a walk. You have a beautiful voice and I love your ears. :)
Rosalynne - I *loved* watching this! Luna, you are so smart!
Karen - What a beautiful voice you have Luna! Boxen can woowoowoo if mom asks who is at the door but he doesn't talk like you do. You are so smart!
Ahliah - hehehehe

Wordgrrl - I love the fact Kaya's lounging in the background, as if she's saying, "Oh, for heaven's sake, Luna! It's a hammer and nails!"
Wordgrrl - PS I like the videos! Keep 'em coming!!
Kimberly - Videos was on my list of things to see more of :) I love Luna's ears in this one!
Cheryl - We love videos, she is so pretty and her older Sissy just hangs out in the background!
Ruby Isabella - mmmm.... now Luna is aware of the nature of hammer and nails and the meaning of this in our lives. If only she had thumbs.
Pipa - Kaya's sooooo funny in this video!! I want to see more videos, of course! Obviously that I want to keep on drooling with your super fantastic pawsome photos, but this video is so funny (specially Kaya's ears going up and down with the noises!) that I want to see more!
Love,
Pipa
Susan in California - I love this puppy!!!! (and Kaya too, of course). She is so funny and seems so attached to Daddy whenever he's working on a project. Keep 'em coming!
Mum was looking through some old videos of us and found some from when I went to puppy preschool! I can’t remember it super well but I do know I was just 10 weeks old, and a LOT bigger than the other puppies. My best friend there was a little Chihuahua cross called Yega, you’ll see him beating me up in the video!
Anyways, enjoy the video! (click here to go to YouTube and watch in high quality, much nicer)
